38' Wooden Lobster Boat by Richard Alley

Built 1970, rebuilt by Jim Parker Shipwright in 2001 approx.

Details from survey follow

Hull: Carvel planked cedar over 1 ¾" x 2 ¼" steam-bent oak frames set at 10" on center. The stem, keel, and dead wood are all sawn oak. There are 2" floor frames with bronze drifts through the keel and dead wood. The inside of the hull is finished with ceiling strips.

Deck and House: The main deck is fiberglass over strips plans and 2" x 2" oak beams set at 18" center and bolted to a 2" x 4" shear clamp. The cabin is fiberglass over plywood. The wheelhouse has glass windows set in wood frames. There is a tip-out window at helm. The cuddy cabin has a Bomar deck hatch and four fixed port lights.


Work Deck: The cockpit is 1" cedar planking over sawn beams. There are two Bomar deck hatches.

Engine and Gear: John Deere 6.8 liter, 265 horsepower marine diesel engine. The serial number is T60685905471. The gear is a Twin Disc (model unknown) with a 2:1 ratio. The engine is flex mounted to oak engine beds. The engine hour gauge reads 2753. The engine is equipped with John Deere panel with gauges and alarms. The controls are Kobelt twin levers.

One 110 gallon (approximately) fiberglass tank set on the work deck and held with cleats. The fill is a 1 ½" bronze pipe with threaded cap on the tank top. The vent is USCG Type A1 hose to a transom fitting. The fuel lines are USCG Type A1. The system is equipped with a Racor primary filter.

12 VDC system with (2) 8D batteries, Guest battery switch, and a breaker panel with a Blues Seas main breaker. The batteries are set on the cuddy sole and held with cleats. DC systems include running lights, deck lights, searchlight, and a Rule 2000 bilge pump.
