Classic Ed Monk Jr. designed flybridge trawler featuring a 4' draft, full-keel protection, economical diesel power, and heavy hand-laid fiberglass construction. PRONTO is exceptionally well suited for the Intracoastal Waterway, Great Loop, Bahamas cruising, coastal passages, and extended liveaboard use. A rare East Coast example, she was transported from California and benefits from extensive upgrades and restoration completed between 2024 and 2026.

Powered by a rebuilt Perkins 200 HP turbocharged diesel with approximately 450 hours since rebuild, PRONTO combines proven Pacific Northwest trawler heritage with updated electronics, renewed systems, and approximately 1,400 hours of skilled refit and restoration work.

Roughwater 37 Design Heritage

The Roughwater 37 occupies an important place in Pacific Northwest trawler history. Designed by Ed Monk Jr., it evolved from the earlier Roughwater 35 and was introduced in the early 1980s to provide improved performance, flybridge visibility, and more contemporary styling while retaining the rugged construction and practical cruising characteristics that made Monk designs so highly regarded.

The Roughwater was among the first all-fiberglass models in the line, built around a heavily constructed hand-laid hull with substantial structural reinforcement, a full-length protective keel, and commercial-grade engineering principles. Its efficient semi-displacement hull delivers excellent cruising economy, directional stability, and comfortable motion underway while maintaining impressive interior volume for a vessel of this size.

These characteristics helped establish the Roughwater 37 as a respected cruising platform for the Pacific Northwest, Intracoastal Waterway, Bahamas, and Great Loop. Today, the design remains highly regarded among experienced cruisers who appreciate traditional trawler styling, robust construction, and practical long-range cruising capability.

Perkins 200 HP Turbocharged Diesel

Power aboard PRONTO is provided by a rebuilt Perkins 200 HP turbocharged inline six-cylinder marine diesel. The Perkins 6.354 family earned a worldwide reputation through decades of commercial marine, industrial, agricultural, and power-generation service.

The inherently balanced inline six-cylinder configuration delivers smooth power delivery, while turbocharging provides additional horsepower without sacrificing the mechanical simplicity, durability, and serviceability for which the Perkins platform is known. Combined with the efficient Monk-designed hull, the Perkins diesel provides an excellent balance of economy, cruising comfort, and dependable long-range performance.

PRONTO represents a particularly strong example of the Roughwater philosophy-practical, heavily built, economical to operate, and designed for serious cruising.
