1970 33' Classic Caribbean Launch - Former David Rockefeller Estate Launch - Saint-Barthélemy

Some boats are defined by their builder.

Some by their design.

Very few are defined by the lives they served.

ALIZE X is one of those rare vessels.

For decades, this classic 33-foot launch quietly transported one of America's most distinguished families between the Port of Gustavia and one of the Caribbean's most celebrated private estates--the secluded Grand Colombier residence of David Rockefeller.

Today, accompanied by multiple signed historical attestations and official French registration records, ALIZE X represents an opportunity to own a documented piece of Saint-Barthélemy history.

A Remarkable Provenance

According to multiple signed witness statements from former Saint-Barthélemy public officials, longtime island residents, and the former Director of the Port of Gustavia, ALIZE X served as the private launch for David Rockefeller's Grand Colombier estate.

During the Rockefeller family's ownership, the estate was accessible almost exclusively by sea. ALIZE X reportedly carried David Rockefeller, members of his family, guests, and estate personnel between Gustavia Harbor and the estate's private landing.

The vessel remained associated with the property until ownership of the estate changed, eventually passing through subsequent owners before being acquired by the present owner.

Copies of these signed attestations accompany the vessel.

The Rockefeller Estate

David Rockefeller purchased the first parcels comprising the Grand Colombier estate in 1957 and ultimately assembled approximately 130 acres overlooking the Caribbean Sea.

Designed by renowned architect Nelson Aldrich, the residence became one of the most iconic private homes in the Caribbean. Accessible only by boat for many years, it served as the Rockefeller family's secluded island retreat for decades.

In 2023, the estate sold privately for approximately $136 million, reported as the highest residential sale ever recorded in Saint-Barthélemy and among the most significant transactions in Caribbean real estate history.

The current owner acquired ALIZE X in 2010 directly from Steve and Linda Horn, who had previously acquired the Grand Colombier estate from David Rockefeller. Prior to assembling the vessel's provenance file, the owner independently sought builder records from Webber's Cove to further document the boat's history, reflecting a long-standing effort to authenticate the vessel's connection with the Rockefeller estate.

ALIZE X is one of the few surviving tangible connections to that remarkable chapter of island history.

Supporting Documentation

The vessel is accompanied by documentation including:

Official French registration records
Multiple signed historical attestations
Statements from former municipal officials
Statement from the former Director of the Port of Gustavia
Chain-of-history connecting the vessel with the Rockefeller estate

While historical production records from Webber's Cove Boatyard are no longer available, former boatyard owner Matt Cousins recalled this vessel from childhood. In correspondence with the present owner, he stated that his parents traveled to Saint-Barthélemy after the boat was accidentally dropped during unloading from the transport ship, requiring approximately two weeks of structural repairs before delivery to the Rockefeller estate. Mr. Cousins also recalled that the vessel had been built specifically for the Rockefeller family.
